From The Helm

Does our club measure up? Thats the question posed by Editor, John Burnham, in the May 2004 issue of Sailing World. Im not really one to read sailing world, thats my husbands job hes the one who needs to learn something about racing sail boats. But, the headline of the Editorial caught my attention. Therefore I read on. In his article Mr. Burnham provides us with a check list to see how were doing in promoting the sport of yachting. First, do we provide organized sailboat racing events, on a regular schedule, with well-kept safety and support craft, fully equipped with the proper gear. In this area I think we score a 10. With four major summer regattas and somewhere around 20 weeks of Wednesday night racing. Does the club provide organized social activities? We do well in this area too, with many great Friday night events along with several social activities in conjunction with racing activities. Is our club supportive of youth training? With the huge support we provide to the 4-H Mariners program, I would say we are outstanding in this regard. Lastly Mr. Burnham gives extra credit for maintaining a list of those looking for crew and those seeking to be crew, do we have a website, and a newsletter? Although informal we do create a network for crewing. All a member has to do is let me know and Ill see to it that the word gets out. Our website is kept update on a regular basis and this newsletter is published on monthly basis. If you dont know what is going on in the club youre not trying. Overall, I think we have a great club. Keep up the good work.

Bar Stools, Bar Stools
The Board would welcome some new decorated bar stools. If you think you might want to put one together a 29 light wood stool is available at K-Mart for $19.99. It would be nice to have more, even if we end up with too many for the bar, they can always be used elsewhere around the club.
Wanted
Bill & Beth Thom are looking for a place on the Beach to keep their two Sunfishes for the Sunday Sunfish Series. If you have space please call Bill at 547-3545.
