From The Helm
Kim Taylor-Commodore
If this Binnacle appears to be dedicated to sail boat racing, it is. With the Summer season fully upon us, it’s time for you set your schedule in stone. You probably won’t be able to attend all of the events, but at least you’ll know what is going on. That’s the purpose behind this special edition of the Binnacle, to keep you informed. The first thing you’ll notice, is that the Notice of Race (NOR) for the Red Fox has been mailed with this edition. In previous years the only members to receive the NOR have been those sailors who have participated. With all the social activities that go along with the regatta, the committee thought it would be appropriate for the whole membership to get a copy of the NOR. The club hosts parties after each portion of the Red Fox. Starting on Friday night burger, brats & hot dogs are served following the NuCore Triangle. On Saturday we gather at the Boyne City marina for a party sponsored by Mount Gay Rum; there is a meal available that includes one half BBQ’d Chicken, side salads, all you can eat corn on the cob and beverage (beer, wine, pop & Mount Gay Rum). The boats return to the north end of the lake on Sunday for awards presentation. While we wait for the results, there are party games, door prizes to be given away and a 50/50 drawing to raise money for the Mariners Program. The Red Fox may be our premier event requiring the most work and organization, but each of the summer regattas are followed up by a social event. The LeBlance Cup race to Beaver Island includes a gathering of our members on BI for an evening of social activities. The No Boundaries Regatta is followed by awards and a pig roast. And The Duke Memorial is complemented by a party in Northport, hosted by the Duke Family. The chairpersons of each regatta and their participants, welcome all members to participate in an event in one way or another. Any time a group of boaters gather (sail & power) a good time is sure to follow.
