It’s an exciting time for Charlevoix Yacht Club.  As our membership is aware, we’ve been working through the possibility of a new yacht club facility for years.  Some significant milestones have been reached and this resumed Binnacle presents a timely opportunity to update the membership about this effort.

A genuinely beautiful design for the building has been created by Andre Poineau that includes dedicated club space, events space, marina facilities, and storage.  Design input was incorporated from many members and professionals such that club needs now, and in the future, should be nicely accommodated.  The view will be magnificent.

Steps toward groundbreaking are in progress.  The proposed site plan went before the City of Charlevoix's  Planning Commission on February 11th and was approved.  Detailed architectural work is in progress while materials, estimates, and project management details have been roughed out by Miller, Poineau and Naumes construction.

Fundraising is in progress with the creation of CYC Partners LLC to fund and own the building in the near term.  In doing so, this corporation will act similar to the old CYC Corp that was created and used to obtain CYC’s current location.  The long term plan is for CYC to take over ownership of the club and events spaces.  The generous and enthusiastic support of several members and Irish Boat Shop continue to make this project possible as does the commitment of the CYC board.  The Clubhouse Committee is busy navigating the complex issues that surround making Irish Boat Shop’s Ferry Avenue location a shared multi-use site.  If you would like to be involved, please contact Commodore Bob Grove.  Look for updates of the progress of this project in future Binnacle issues and on our website.
