Sunday Dinghy Racing

On Sunday afternoons in the summer, the Charlevoix Yacht Club, in cooperation with the Lake Charlevoix Mariners and Sail Charlevoix, hosts an open regatta series that attracts youth and adult sailors. Lasers are the primary fleet, but Sunfish regularly participate, and other dinghy-class boats are welcome.

Registration fees are low for this fun racing series and youth under 21 can participate at no cost, making this the perfect way to build your racing skills.

Have a boat? Storage at Depot Beach is available. Need a boat? You can rent a Laser or Sunfish - see the notice of race for details.

Arena Racing

In mid-October, racing moves from Lake Charlevoix to Round Lake. On Sunday afternoons, a fleet of eight to twelve J22s sail six short courses in tight quarters using just jib and main. Intrepid sailors delight in the unusual courses, crowded mark roundings, fickle winds, and occasional snowstorms that are the hallmarks of arena racing.

The season culminates with the Cranberry Cup race on the Sunday after Thanksgiving.

Want to sail in the snow?

Arena Racing is open to everyone - you do not need to be a member of the Charlevoix Yacht Club.
